THE USE OF FAKE NEWS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF POLITICAL DISCOURSES AND MANIPULATION OF ELECTIONS

Abstract

This article aims to examine the dissemination of fake news in the 2022 Brazilian election as a technique for constructing narratives and political discourses intended to persuade voters and influence the outcome of the elections. To this end, the concepts of disciplinary society and society of control, by Michel Foucault, and society of control and modulation of behavior, by Deleuze, were used. This research is characterized as bibliographic and documentary in nature, as well as empirical, since it analyzes concrete facts that occurred in the 2022 Brazilian elections. It is also legal-propositional, as it proposes to both discuss a social fact and present possible alternatives and/or solutions. The deductive method was chosen as a scientific approach. It was concluded that the Brazilian electoral context in 2022 (i) was permeated by the dissemination of fake news; (ii) posed a risk to the outcome of the elections; (iii) contributed to political polarization; and (iv) it was marked by the spread of fake news. Given the concrete risk faced by the Democratic Rule of Law, prompt action was required from the electoral justice system.
