The article analyzes the historical evolution of Human Rights in light of the Universal Declaration of the Human Genome and Human Rights and the ethical and scientific implications of genome editing technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9. The research is based on the premise that these techniques promote innovative genetic therapies, however, they go through the tenuous link between science and ethics, because how far can these technologies be applied without affecting human rights and individual dignity? It adopts documentary analytical methodology and explores the historical development of Human Rights, the impact of DNA mapping on science and society and the CRISPR-Cas9 technique. It is concluded that the 1988 Political Charter establishes fundamental guarantees that are intertwined with jurisdictional activity. Considering the transnationality of the genome, a global dialogue is essential to ensure the ethical and fair application of technological advances, respecting the principles of human dignity and social justice.
